I think I kind of have a best friend in college now. I mean, we hang out all the time and when other people she knows are around she still hangs out with me instead of leaving me alone and meeting those other people so I guess she thinks of me as her “best friend” too, also last week we went to the movies together and afterwards we went to a coffee shop and talked for a while and now both of us and this other girl who’s also our friend (but she has a lot of other friends besides us so she’s not constantly with us) are going to do this project on Friday and afterwards we’re going to go clubbing (because there’s a holiday on Saturday so I don’t have class), which I don’t love but I’m not freaking out that much because they’re actually cool so I guess I’ll have fun and so that’s all I wanted to post about, I think

also I developed a new crush on this other guy

Euclidean orgasm upon realising that the reason you take the cross product of two vectors to find one that is perpendicular to both is because the vector that results when you take the cross product of two vectors is (listen to this, it blew my mind 5 minutes ago): FUCKING PERPENDICULAR to the plane defined between those two vectors. I AM SO HAPPY I COULD CRY but I’m not geeky enough this time.

Hello there. I am an engineering students as well, at least for the meantime. I want to major in chemical engineering, but I am not sure about it. I am a freshman, hopefully I will finish my semester with good grades and pass all my courses and get into Calculus 2 in the summer. I am surprised that you are taking Algebra ? I thought that you need to know Algebra and Trigonometry, before you get into university freshman year.

Well… I live in South America so those things are probably different in our countries. Here you don’t need to take any courses before entering Engineering school, you can apply right after you finish high school, take an exam, and if you pass then you start right away (and you can’t change your mind, well you can but there’s a lot of paperwork involved and no guarantees that you won’t need to retake certain subjects). But instead of 4 years, our Engineering school lasts 5 years (if you’re lucky), so in the first year I guess we’re seeing all of those things you absolutely need to know in order to move forward with Engineering school (actually, the first two years of every Engineering in my country are the same for all branchs, and we go into specifics the last three years).

HOWEVER, the short answer is yes, we should probably know Algebra before entering Engineering school, considering the complexity of the courses we have to take… but let’s just say the educational system in Argentina is pretty shitty, so it’s not surprising to see like, 70% of engineering students drop out after the first month (because they’re expected to know all those things we’ve never even heard about before).
